The Source Protection Programme is a unique operational and information security training course, delivered online through hands-on practical training sessions and interactive resources. The programme is developed and delivered by the Centre for Investigative Journalism and the Freedom of The Press Foundation.

The persecution and targeting of journalists and their sources is evident around the world. While investigators collaborate across borders and strive for greater impact, threats from security service and law enforcement overreach, authoritarian regimes, litigious corporations and organised crime continues to increase. As editors grapple with the failing economics of the profession it’s vital that newsrooms, freelancers and fixers get the training they need to protect themselves and their ability to hold power to account. The CIJ was established to address the dangerous shortfall of resources for investigative journalism. As the climate has worsened, now we want to address via quality training the dangers faced by journalistic sources and whistleblowers. A journalism that betrays its sources, after all, is digging its own grave.
