Training in environmental and climate journalism
A four-day, in-person training by the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) on the coverage of climate and environmental advocacy issues holding in Belém, Pará, the Brazilian city that will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in 2025.
Duration: 6hrs x 4 days
Ten journalists will have a total of 24 hours of training on aspects of climate change, environmental journalistic investigation and the work of environmental defenders. The programme includes classes about risks for local populations and local coverage in the context of climate change, techniques for collecting, follow the money of supply chains that benefit from or aggravate climate change (for for independent journalists covering the Amazon), interviewing and presenting data for environmental reporting projects. Other modules include data and digital tools for climate change reporting such as satellite analysis, analysing data on deforestation in Brazil (Prodes and Deter) and land use data tools (Mapbiomas), impact of climate change on indigenous territories, as well as greenwashing strategies and the ESG concept to mention just a few.
At the end of the training, two story ideas will be selected that will receive financial and technical support for execution and publication with a deadline of January 2024.
