Flash Floods: How to Report when Climate Disaster Strikes

Disasters triggered by climate change are many years in the making, but when they reach critical points the effects can unfold fast. If journalists are to capture and show the impacts of such events on affected communities, they too must act fast. That is exactly what staff of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) in Nigeria had to do when unprecedented floods swept across Nigeria.

In this session, CJID Director Dr Tobi Oluwatola explains the tools, techniques and the preparations that allowed them to stay on top of one of Nigeria’s fastest developing news stories of the past year. Chaired by CIJ’s OCRI Regional Coordinator for MENA, Lina Yassin.

Part of the CIJ Climate OCRI Networking event at #CIJSummer Conference. Supported by Journalimsfund EU.
