This panel of experienced data journalists will explain how data can give greater depth to your stories and discuss best-practice for integrating data analysis into newsroom workflows. If you’re new to data journalism and want to find out what the techniques can do for you, or if you work with data journalists and want a greater understanding of their role to inform your expectations then this talk is for you.

Caelainn Barr

Caelainn Barr is Editor of Data Projects at the Guardian. She has worked at The Wall Street Journal, The Irish Times, Bloomberg and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism. She is a graduate of the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia Journalism School in New York.

Helena Bengtsson

Helena Bengtsson is the data journalism editor at Gota Media, a regional publishing company in the south of Sweden with 13 local titles. She previously worked as the data journalism editor at Sveriges Television, Sweden’s national television broadcaster, for 27 years and has also served as Editor, Data Projects of the Guardian UK between 2014-2017.

Leila Haddou

Leila Haddou is former data journalism editor for The Times and Sunday Times. Before that, she worked on investigations at the Financial Times and the Guardian. She has an avid interest in how technology can aid investigative reporting and co-organises the monthly Journocoders meet up event.
