Cross-Border Corporate Mapping
Many investigations start with company registries but quickly run into their limitations. Journalists often need to:
- Analyse registries from different countries
- Search for beneficial owners through multiple layers of ownership
- Explore global networks of companies
- Identify sanctioned and toxic connections
- Clearly and effectively visualize relationship structure.
To uncover the real beneficiaries and toxic links, journalists must go beyond a single registry or country and work with global data.
At the workshop, you will learn how to combine data from dozens of jurisdictions into a single workflow and visualize corporate connections worldwide using digital tools based on the open-data ecosystem of YouControl; how to use the YC World summariser to quickly extract key information about individuals and legal entities and instantly spot “red flags”; methods to combine text, audio, and video formats into a unified output.
Collaborative investigations: the system is designed to facilitate teams to work together on a single project, contribute valuable additions, share, and scale results.
This workshop is run by YouControl, the Ukrainian team behind YC World (https://youcontrol.world/), a specialised cross-border investigative platform. The organisation’s mission is to provide journalists with the tools needed to uncover beneficial ownership, complex corporate structures, and hidden influence networks, especially in high-risk jurisdictions.
Technical Requirements
To participate in the workshop, having a laptop is not mandatory but highly recommended. If you are interested in testing the tool before the workshop, you need to register in advance. As part of YouControl’s social mission, they provide special access for media representatives to conduct investigations, prepare research, and produce news.
