New speakers join #CIJSummer

Maeve McClenaghan (The Top off Podcast and the Guardian), Basia Cummings (Tortoise Studios) and Dean Kirby (the i newspaper) will be speaking at the #CIJSummer Conference 2023.

Maeve and Basia will share their experience of creating successful podcasts.

Dean will be taking about his open source investigation into Russia’s filtration camps in Ukraine and his investigation into the prepayment meter scandal.

Basia Cummings

Basia Cummings is an editor and partner at Tortoise, an audio-first newsroom based in London. She is the host of the weekly investigative show, the Slow Newscast,; executive editor of numerous investigative podcast series including Sweet Bobby, Hoaxed and Hidden Homicides (shortlisted for the 2022 Orwell Prize); and reporter of Pig Iron and Left to Die, which won the 2021 Foreign Press Award for best podcast.

Dean Kirby

Dean Kirby is the award-winning Investigations Correspondent of the i newspaper in London. His recent awards include the Medical Journalists’ Association News Story of the Year for an investigation into Britain's PPE supply chain chaos during the Covid pandemic.

Maeve McClenaghan

Maeve McClenaghan is an award-winning investigative journalist and founder of the critically-acclaimed podcast The Tip Off. Formerly at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Maeve now works as investigations correspondent at the Guardian.
