Maria Alyokhina
Maria Alyokhina, a political activist, artist and founding member of the punk collective Pussy Riot, was convicted in 2012 of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and sentenced to two years in prison. Upon her release she helped found Media Zona, an independent media outlet which aims to hold Russia’s justice system to account.
Maria Alyokhina is the author of Riot Days, a hallucinatory account of her experiences of the Russian justice system.
