OCRI Story Lab and Climate Investigations Workshop in South Asia

DataLEADS, OCRI’s South Asian partner, is conducting a four-day intensive training and story-lab workshop for journalists from five South Asian countries. Participants will learn concepts, tools, and techniques to develop and refine their climate investigation story proposals.

Duration: 4 days

The workshop is a regionally adapted version of CIJ’s new Climate Investigations Course (CIC). It consists of four modules covering climate science and reporting, investigation of public agencies and corporations, deep-data dive, ECOSINT (Digital Tools & Methodologies for Climate Investigations that includes Satellite Imagery & Mapping and Fighting Climate D/Misinformation).

Participants will benefit from both hands-on practice and theoretical learning, developing their story pitches under expert guidance during story lab sessions. After the workshop, they will receive editorial guidance and mentorship throughout their investigation process.

Anoushka Dalmia

Anoushka Dalmia is a data-driven investigative reporter with a focus on human rights. She is currently the South Asia Correspondent & Editorial Strategist for Asian Dispatch, a cross-border, collaborative Asian newsroom.

Arun Karki

Based in Nepal, Arun is a leading data journalist, trainer and the founder of the Center for Data Journalism Nepal (CDJN). Since 2020, he has spearheaded various data-driven reporting projects, including COVID-19 data reporting and climate investigations, employing open-source intelligence.

Dilrukshi Handunnetti

Dilrukshi Handunnetti is an award-winning Sri Lankan investigative journalist and editor. She is the co-founder and director of the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) in Colombo and currently serves as Sri Lanka editor for Mongabay.

Mayank Aggarwal

Trustee and Editor at The Reporters’ Collective, a Delhi-based investigative news platform, Mayank is a journalist with nearly two decades of experience. He has extensively worked on investigating and reporting on how environmental laws are being systematically diluted and flouted in India.
