Investigative stories presented as stakeholders discuss mangrove disappearance in Cameroun

Stakeholders from Government agencies, Civil Society Organisations, researchers/academics working on mangrove issues as well as the media were present as Adisi-Cameroun held an Investigative stories presentation and roundtable event. Journalists who participated in the OCRI-supported intervention called Open data for environment and Civic Awareness in Cameroon (ODECA) presented their investigative stories which highlighted the disappearance of mangroves on one hand and the challenges of sustainable managing it on the other.

Adeolu, OCRI’s Project Manager, gave remarks on behalf of CIJ and following the presentation of the investigative stories, a roundtable discussion followed. The five experts dived into the discussion that examined the causes, manifestations and consequences of mangroves loss as well as assessing the level of threats for an urgent and effective response plan.

The event served as the grand-finale to the ODECA project following months of training focused on data journalism and environmental issues; mentoring of reporters and investigative field work.
