From Story to Community: Designing Engagement Strategies for Investigative Journalism

This is a practical workshop. Please bring your laptop/tablet with you.

The workshop will focus on practical strategies for designing engagement around an investigation. Participants learn how to identify key audiences, choose platforms that actually reach them, and plan engagement activities before, during, and after publication. The workshop also highlights how investigative stories can be adapted into accessible formats such as radio discussions, community forums, social media conversations, and short explainer content so that complex findings are easier for audiences to understand and share.

Through guided exercises, participants will map the engagement ecosystem around their own investigative projects and develop a basic engagement plan. By the end of the workshop, they will have a clear framework for ensuring their investigations reach the communities affected by the issues they report on and the institutions capable of responding to them. The goal is to help journalists move beyond publication and design reporting that sparks conversation, awareness, and accountability.
