A fearless Nigerian investigative journalist who has gone under cover on numerous occasions to expose corruption, ‘Fisayo Soyombo is best known for spending several days in a police cell and in a prison to expose corruption within the country’s criminal justice system. At the CIJ he talks about his work and his methods, and the challenges of doing journalism against the Nigerian state.

‘Fisayo Soyombo is best known for his undercover work, such as spending five days in a police cell as a suspect and eight as an inmate in Ikoyi Prison — to track corruption in Nigeria’s criminal justice system; or the journalist who drove the equivalent of a stolen vehicle from Abuja to Lagos, passing through a whopping 86 checkpoints in a journey of over 1,600km that lasted a cumulative 28hours 17minutes.
