Vanessa Gezari

Vanessa Gezari is National Security Editor at The Intercept and author of The Tender Soldier, a narrative nonfiction account of the Human Terrain System, a controversial U.S. Army program that sent civilian social scientists into combat with soldiers to try to help the military understand local culture in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gezari has reported from Afghanistan, South Asia, and West Africa and is an adjunct professor at Columbia Journalism School.
