Michael Goodier
Michael Goodier is a journalist on the Guardian’s Data Project team. Previous to the Guardian, he worked as a data journalist at the New Statesman and as part of the Reach Data Unit. Mainly focused on UK news, Michael particularly enjoys using R to web scrape, clean and analyse datasets. He can also be found among the pile of unanswered Freedom of Information requests at your public authorities FOI office.
Recent stories include the carbon emissions of celebrities’ jets, the harm caused by NHS waiting lists, the precarious state of council finances, and the crazy things invented last year.
Michael also teaches as a visiting lecturer in data journalism at City, University of London. His portfolio at the Guardian was shortlisted for the Press Awards in 2024.
