Buanamade Assane Buana

Buanamade Assane was selected to be a teacher, following an intensive 30-day psycho-pedagogical training course at the Napipine Teacher Training School in January 1982. In 1984, he was invited by some foreigners, technical advisors from the then Media Office, now ICS, to be part of a team of journalists for the Nampula delegation, where he took his first steps in journalism.

Here, he started out in the newsroom, later moving on to the video sector (channel zero) where he worked as a camera assistant, cameraman, video editor, documentary film maker and photo reporter. He settled successively in Nampula until 1986 when he was transferred to Maputo. In 1990, he moved to ICS Pemba where he spent most of his time doing the same tasks until 2001.

While working in Maputo, Buanamade was part of teams that produced a number of documentaries that won prizes at international video and film festivals, such as gold medals, and silver medals. Honourable mention in Mogadishu, Germany and Brazil, respectively.

In 2002, as part of a group of journalists from iCS and RM, he took part in the creation of the newspaper Horizonte, where he was elected editor-in-chief and became co-editor until 2021. In 2022, he became director of Horizonte.
