Investigative story-lab workshop in Côte d’Ivoire for Francophone Journalists

12 journalists from eight West and Central African countries selected out of more than 500 applicants, are participating in an intensive story-lab workshop, organised by the Norbert Zongo Unit for Investigative Journalism in West Africa (CENOZO), with the support of the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ).

Duration: 4 days

Journalists who possess some advanced investigative experience, will learn advanced techniques and tools for conducting climate investigations. The sessions range from the fundamentals of climate investigation, with the key differences from environmental journalism, through to ECOSINT (Digital Tools & Methodologies for Climate Investigations), techniques for investigating the actions of governments and companies; the collection, processing and effective use of data, as well as digital security.

The workshop, which features a hands-on practical approach, will enable the participants, supervised by a team of trainers from CIJ and CENOZO, to leave with fairly well-calibrated story pitches for execution.

All of this intense work will be preceded (on 14 October) by a one-day Forum on ‘the production and use of data in the fight against climate change’, that will bring together journalists, scientists and civil society players to explore among other things the challenges and opportunities of accessing open data in the region.
