Latin America Partners to improve journalism tools and methodologies for investigating climate change issues

Fundación Gabo and Fundación Connectas are partnering with the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) in strengthening the capacities of journalists in Latin America under its Open Climate Reporting Initiative (OCRI). The partnerships will focus on improving the use of tools and methodologies to help them adequately investigate and cover issues related to climate change.

Fundación Gabo, an institution created by the Colombian journalist and Nobel Prize winner for literature Gabriel García Márquez, will implement masterclasses, workshops for journalists in Latin America and a public discussion during the Gabo Festival to be held in-person by October 2022.

With Latin America named as one of world’s region that is most affected by climate change by the United Nations (UN), Fundación Connectas will work on consolidating its Planeta Connectas initiative. This will be through replicating and adjusting successful methodologies of pedagogical editorial support that have been implemented in the last ten years culminating into a roadmap on climate change coverage.

Earlier in the year, the CIJ identified Latin America (excluding Brazil) as one of 3 regions for the delivery phase for Year 1 of OCRI running from April 2022 to March 2023.
