Who Did Nord Stream?
In September 2022 a series of massive underwater explosions destroyed sections of the two Nord Stream pipelines built to transport natural gas from Russia to Europe via Germany. The investigation found itself in a highly politicised environment, with three schools of thought: The Russians did it. The CIA did it. The Ukrainians did it. How do you cope as an independent journalist with a case which quickly became the subject of systematic disinformation and ideology? And how can a cross-border collaboration deal with the challenges of a multinational law investigation? Holger Stark, one of Germany’s most garlanded investigative reporters, discusses his and his colleagues’ exhaustive investigation into the incident – and their conclusion.
