Investigative Journalism Summer Conference
Designed for journalists. Open to all.
25 – 27 June 2020

Shiv Malik, as any good investigative journalist does, was busy building up his network of sources. That was until he agreed to ghost-write the story of one of his sources, who turned out not to be entirely honest…

Shiv tells Jane Bradley the story of the decisions and job he most regrets. As well as how he and all his work with this source, as well as his other reporting on terrorism, became the subject of police interest and a court case, with ramifications for press freedom across the UK.

This was a talk given at the CIJ’s Summer Investigative Journalism Conference in 2019. See other recorded talks here.
