Climate and environment investigations
From a niche specialism, climate change moved to the forefront of the news agenda in the recent years.
This year we will hear from journalists from all over the world who have been covering the topics of climate change and environment.
We will hear about investigations into oil mining in Nigeria, landslides in Nepal, the destruction of the mangroves in Cameroon, Lesotho’s green energy investments and much more.

Arun Karki
Based in Nepal, Arun is a data journalist, trainer and Founder/Executive Director of the Center for Data Journalism Nepal (CDJN). He has been leading various data-driven journalism projects since 2020, including COVID-19 data reporting, Climate Investigations using Open Source Intelligence and Data, and the Use of Data in Public Interest Reporting.
Basant Pratap Singh
Basant Pratap Singh is an investigative journalist based in Far-western Nepal, with a 17-year experience in the field. He has built a reputation for himself as a reporter in covering pressing issues related to the environment, climate change, human rights, gender, and social affairs, as well as good governance in remote and rural parts of Western Nepal.
Ed Davey
Ed Davey is a Special Correspondent for Climate Accountability at the Associated Press, working to hold corporations and politicians to account for their contribution to global warming. He specialises in investigative and environmental journalism.
Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi
Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi is a freelance multimedia investigative journalist, passionate about environmental and climate justice. She specialises in fact-checking, data journalism and OSINT. An alumna of the Oxford Climate Journalism Network of the Reuters Institute of Journalism.
Gianluca Liva
Gianluca Liva is an Italian science journalist and science communicator. Gianluca is one of the founders of RADAR Magazine, a website of an Italian collective of science, investigative and environmental journalists and photographers.
Luuk Sengers
Luuk Sengers is an experienced teacher and investigative journalist. He lectures at universities and in newsrooms and writes data-driven stories for the leading Dutch magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. He is also co-developer of Story-Based Inquiry.
Michèle Ebongue
Michèle Ebongue is an investigative journalist, data journalist, fact-checker, blogger, Head of News Desk at Data Cameroon. Michelle started as a radio journalist, but with time moved to print. Since July 2020, she joined the team of Data Cameroon, an online publication specialising in data journalism and fact-checking.
Sechaba Mokhethi
Sechaba Mokhethi is an investigative journalist and founding partner of MNN Centre for Investigative Journalism in Lesotho. He started out as a political writer for Public Eye, a local newspaper in Lesotho.
Dr Tobi Oluwatola
Dr Tobi Oluwatola is the Executive Director of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, a West African media innovation think tank. Prior to CJID, he worked in many policy and business consulting roles in four continents including the World Bank, FCDO, GIZ, RAND Corporation and KPMG.
