New role at the CIJ: Engagement Officer

Engagement officer

→ Objectives:

  • This is a new role with the primary objective of advising and guiding the team on the best way of communicating with our existing audiences and networks, and reaching new ones with the aim of increasing attendance at CIJ training and events
  • To review current communication channels with regard to best practice and feed into the strategy ways of improving this
  • To increase sign-ups to our mailing list and engagement rates
  • To grow our national and regional presence and reach on social media
  • To build our contacts with newsrooms, NGOs, organisations and universities

→ Responsibilities:

  • To produce and implement a strategy to market more effectively The Centre for Investigative Journalism’s training and events to a range of different audiences. This would cover:
      • Marketing and promoting the organisation
      • Marketing and promoting our training events and public talks
      • Sourcing new leads for our scheduled and bespoke training, and finding fresh ways to reach new, underrepresented audiences
      • Developing and managing the CIJ's brand across all publications and output
  • To work with the team to find ways of engaging more effectively with our network of investigative journalists, universities, NGOs and our other audiences via targeted email and targeted social media
  • To research leads for new partners for our training programmes, and potential funders
  • To pursue detailed and systematic audience analytics, and make the most of our existing databases to analyse our audiences and their engagement rates
  • To help build on our exciting new regional presence, via our ACCESS TO TOOLS and Community Journalism programmes
  • To integrate these engagement efforts within our developing web presence

→ Candidate’s skills & profile:

  • Has sales & marketing experience within the corporate or NGO sectors
  • Digitally savvy
  • Has a flair for communication and excellent copywriting skills
  • Skills in using a wide range of web analytics tools
  • Able to update and manage a content managed website
  • Able to understand, communicate, and execute all activities related to organic search in key search engines such as Google
  • Skills in increasing audience engagement via digital campaigns
  • An understanding of the CIJ’s distinctive role and reputation for independence within the investigative journalism sector

→ Salary & time frame

  • 1 year contract, with the possibility of extension
  • Part time position: 2 days a week
  • Office-based
  • Salary: £40k pro-rata
