Applications Open for CIJ Masterclass 2021

We are now accepting applications for the 2021 iteration of our Masterclass programme. It is designed to provide guidance, support and skills to early-career journalists who face structural barriers to entering the investigative journalism profession.

For those working in the journalism industry, the era of Covid-19 has has been rocky, to say the least. In such a precarious climate, the danger is that the jobs go to the well-heeled and well-connected rather than those who are necessarily best at doing the job.

#CIJMasterclass – Class of 2019

Over a series of Saturday mornings in September/October 2019, our CIJ Masterclass took students through a wide-ranging curriculum drawing on the best professional expertise available anywhere. Its first iteration, was curated by Reuters special correspondent and author of The New Spymasters and Ghost Plane, Stephen Grey, assisted by some of the UK’s most experienced investigative reporters, and experts in handling both sources and data .

Access to Tools Launches

The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ), in association with the Google News Initiative, are delighted to announce the launch of Access to Tools, a new project that will bring skills and techniques available through the Google News Initiative’s suite of applications and other digital tools to local newsrooms, independent media, academics and ordinary citizens around the UK.

Newcastle CIJ Conference

We have finally realised our dream to take the CIJ Summer Conference outside London with a one-day conference at Newcastle University on Saturday (29 September). The day was made possible thanks to the support of the Google News Initiative and marked the launch of our Access to Tools training.

The CIJ and the Google News Initiative to continue delivering Access to Tools

The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) is delighted to announce that it will be continuing its partnership with the Google News Initiative. Building on the success of last year’s training that was launched in Newcastle in September 2018, the Access to Tools programme will see the CIJ lead 25 workshops between May and December 2019.
