FOIA Requests with Martin Rosenbaum

    The BBC’s Freedom of Information Act specialist Martin Rosenbaum will share his tips, tactics and secrets with Request Initiative on the 27 February.

    Journalists and campaigners are invited to join us and learn from the man who trains and advises BBC journalists on how to use the FOIA. Martin will give insight into the some of the battles that requesters face when obtaining disclosures and share the inside stories of how the BBC broke some of its FOIA scoops. This will include January’s revelation that the number of young police officers in England and Wales has fallen by nearly half over two years. He will also discuss and take questions on other recent and notable BBC FOIA stories. A roundtable discussion between information rights professionals, journalists, campaigners and lawyers will follow. This debate will pick up on the threads raised by Martin’s talk, however, those at the table are welcome to raise questions and topics of their own.

    About Martin Rosenbaum Martin Rosenbaum is BBC News’ specialist in using the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. He trains and advises BBC journalists on FOIA and has addressed international conferences on journalism and FOI. Some stories the BBC has produced using FOI can be found here. Martin is also an executive producer in the BBC Political Programmes department, overseeing a variety of radio programming. He is a producer of radio documentaries on topics ranging from the inside story of Gordon Brown's premiership to the politics of The Simpsons.
