Fully Booked. Does a Democracy Need a Regulated Press?

    Thursday 21 February 2013
Open Society Foundation, Millbank Tower, SW1P 4QP

We're sorry but the CIJ debate about the regulation of the press is now fully booked.

Venue: The Big Ben Room, Open Society Foundation, Seventh Floor Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP

    At 6pm for a 6.30 start.

We would like to thank the OSI for hosting this event.

    The debate
With the Murdoch tabloid scandals prompting the Leveson Inquiry, a timid press that failed to report Jimmy Savile, and onerous libel and privacy law further disadvantaging disclosure we ask:

How are the innocent protected? Debating this subject will be:

Chris Blackhurst, editor of the Independent
    Brian Cathcart, from Hacked Off
Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye
Geoffrey Robertson QC, human rights lawyer

The chair will be Gavin MacFadyen, director of the CIJ.
