    CIJ Fellows Matt Kennard and Claire Provost continue to publish from their investigations in El Salvador. Their story in the Independent on Sunday highlights how the citizens of a region in the north of the country, are uniting in collective resistance to the power of multinational mining companies eager to exploit the local gold and silver resources.

    The municipality has used little known legislation to force a referundum on introducing a blanket ban on mining permits in the region which it is hoped will set an important precendent.
