CIJ Bertha Fellows: Turkish Worker Rights Violations

In a report published today by The Black Sea, CIJ Bertha Fellows Craig Shaw and Claire Provost expose the harsh conditions forced upon workers at Ford and Fiat factories in Turkey. Workers who opposed the conditions through organised strikes have found themselves spied on through social media and in many cases sacked without severance pay.

Our Fellows dug deeper, to highlight the role in the violations played by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a fund resourced by EU public money, which has a commitment to promote socially sustainable development. Despite this remit, the Bank has provided hundreds of millions of euros in loans to the companies, while they force huge workloads for little pay on their workers.
